In the early 1970s, K.M. Mohandas, a non-resident Indian in Dubai and first-generation entrepreneur, started a distribution company for several European, US and Asian manufacturers of medical, agricultural and electrical equipment.

Westfort Group began to expand and diversify business. Firstly, a 4-star hotel was set up in the nearby historic temple town of Guruvayur, under the company Sreenidhi Towers Pvt. Ltd.

In 2002 with the support of the state government, a super specialty Westfort Hi-Tech Hospital was opened. Situated on a 4-acre site facing the Thrissur-Guruvayur highway (NH-47) near the city centre, the hospital complex draws patients from near and far for its pioneering and comprehensive clinical care.

The best facilities need the best personnel. Therefore, the next and obvious investment for the Westfort Group was in health education. Started in 2004, the Westfort Academy for Higher Education, and the Westfort Institute for Paramedical Sciences have become the bedrock of qualified and well-trained nursing and paramedical staff. The same year, the Group invest ed in specialized courses for IT and administrative professionals by opening IMT Thrissur, run by the Westfort Higher Education Trust. With modern allopathic treatment and staff training made available, the Group saw the need to compliment modern diagnostics and investigation with traditional medical wisdom and proven treatments. The Westfort Ayurveda Hospital offers a plush and accountable setting for ayurvedic Panchakarma treatments.

In 2014, the LIFE Centre for Fertility was launched to tackle the growing and often stigmatized problem of infertility among young couples. Finally, the Westfort College of Pharmacy was custom-built in to impart value-based education focused on improving health, and pioneering research and interdisciplinary practice development.
